SQUAMISH SKUNK CONTROL

- Fast and efficient Service Usually on the Same Day -

Skunk scaring peopleI’m sure most people would agree that they’re not exactly thrilled about the idea of enduring endless kissing attempts from Pepé Le Pew. Instead, they’d much prefer to see him off the property entirely—and quickly, preferably on the same day if at all possible.

Our Squamish Skunk Control is likely just what you need!

Why skunks Are Attracted to Your Property

The reason why you may see skunks on your property has very little to do with the value of your property.

It mostly comes to food, water and shelter.

Although Skunks are mostly active at night like raccoons are, the brazen nature of raccoons makes them take more risks while Skunks are more on the timid side. Skunk are omnivores just like raccoons and will eat very similar food: fallen fruits, berries, recycling from homes, scavenging, rodents, fish, insects and so on.

Skunk control in the Squamish region is very random from my experience.

Skunks like dark, warm and covered shelter especially when raising their young.  I have removed skunks from millions dollars properties as well as as in trailer parks and even under park vehicles.  They are opportunistic. Young female skunk giving birth for the first time are inexperienced and sometimes will choose the oddest place to raise their young. I have removed skunk in the past in open basement window well, under canoes, inside boats and even inside a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe push car.  The more experienced skunks will dig a bit further like under a deck, in a back shed or worst under a house in a crawl space. Skunk will mostly prefer staying on the ground for the most part although they can climb.

Controling Skunks in the Squamish Region

There is always risks when dealing with Skunks, no matter their age.  Skunk are not aggressive but they don’t like other animals or humans approching them.  Their first method of intimidation is to stomp the ground, sending you a message that tey won’t be messed with and you’d better back away.  THey don’t tend to spray unless absolutely necessary. if that happens, well weneed to take a real good bath.

You shouldn’t try to mess with skunks yourselves if you never dealt with them in the past. We have years of experience dealing with these beautiful little creatures and in time have learned to read the signs if we are going to need to suit up inorder not to get sprayed.  Protecting exposed skin is important but eye protectoin is abslutely necessary.

Some of the Steps to Capture and Remove a Skunk

Sometimes it is fairly easy if they are in the open.   we use a tarp to protect ourselves and hush away the mother.  Once she is at a good distance from the area we go get the babies and put them in a box and transport them away from the area we captured them.  once that this is done the mother will instinctively go get her babies and grab each young to transport them in a safe place.  meanwhile we work at blocking the entry point to the area they used as a den. Once this accomplish chances are the mother will come back and inspect the area which is now excluded and will go out to find a new permanent suitable den for her young away from your property.  After our job is done we will consult with you about maybe modifying certain areas on your property or home in order to avoid a repeat.

What if We Can't Get to the Skunk?

If the are where they are located is inaccessible we block every potential exit points and install a one way door.  This one way door will allow the mother to exit but she won’t be able to come back in.  This give us a chance to use a remote camera to locate the youngsters and create an opening to reach them with a pole or a net. If all else fail the only option left is to create an opening in order to reach them.
